Brock Penner
Brock Penner embarked on his creative journey during his university education at the University of Lethbridge. Currently, he is immersed in the dynamic realm of New Media, specialising in Cinema and Video Production within the university's dedicated New Media department. With a background in the photographic arts, Brock is deeply influenced by classical art and traditional values when it comes to creativity. Inspired by the underground, Brock’s work consists of gritty imagery and gothic design with a special interest in thriller cinema and realism; through exploring multiple mediums including cinema, photography, and design. His goal is to capture the mundane and sometimes terrifying aspects of everyday life that the everyday person may not be aware of. Brock’s skills of crafting expert composition and using his profound understanding of visual narrative his work reflects the gritty and gothic inspiration associated with art house cinema and design. Blending photography and design he is able to create provocative, grungy designs reminiscent of the pop art movement. Brock is currently pursuing perfecting the art of the camera through explorations in framing and camera movement to aid in the storytelling of projects he is involved in.
Along with physical and visual narrative he is also attempting to improve his writing; working on several scripts for short films and self motivated explorations in short stories. These scripts focus on his grungy and artistic style, incorporating narrative structure that is both interesting and allows for depth in character and setting. These stories hope to engage creative skill in both filmmaking and camera work while also perfecting the storytelling and narrative of his work. While this small aspect of his narrative development is important, Brock’s main focus is on the visuals with a keen eye for colours, continuity and creativity whenever a camera is involved. His personal exploration and professional work reflects a journey marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, as he continues to push the boundaries of creativity and immerse himself in the dynamic and realistic worlds of art, photography, and cinematography. Brock is a multifaceted artist, photographer, and cinematographer whose passion for storytelling transcends mediums.
